Tiz the Law finished second to Authentic in the 146th Kentucky Derby at Churchill downs on September 5, 2020. Originally scheduled to be run on May, 2020, the race was delayed for 4 months due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Sent off as the prohibitive 3-5 favorite, Tiz tracked closely behind Authentic but was unable to pass him in the stretch losing by 1 ¼ lengths. He earned $600,000 for the second-place finish.
